THOMAS MAYER Obituary

Thomas William Mayer died on Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was born on November 10, 1925 to Thomas L. and Marie (Konrad) Mayer in Yonkers, where he was raised and educated, graduating from Gorton High School. He served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a signal man. Thomas joined the Yonkers Fire Department on June 6, 1953 and served his Community bravely for 36 years, retiring in 1989. On November 3, 1956, he married Lorraine O'Rourke in St. Anthony's Church, Nepera Park, she predeceased him in 1999. He was a fond member of Local 628 International Association of Firefighters, Veteran of Foreign War, Post 03083 and a founding member of the Colts Boys Club where he coached Little League. He recently retired to Pompano Beach where he enjoyed fishing, golf, swimming, and watching Spring Training. Mr. Mayer is survived by his son Daniel Thomas Mayer of Pompano Beach, FL, and daughters Janet McHenry of Cortlandt Manor, NY, and Lorraine Nardi of Yorktown Heights. He is also survived by four grandchildren; William Thomas and Caitlin McHenry and Jenna and Christina Nardi, his brother William Mayer of Garnersville, NY and Cousin Edward Kane of NYC. He was predeceased by his son Thomas William Mayer in 1987. Also survived by a hostof nieces, nephews and dear friends. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Anthony's Church on Thursday, April 1st at 10 am.
