Vincent Abbatecola Obituary
Vincent J. Abbatecola, 92 of Pearl River, passed away peacefully on June 4 at the Joe Raso Hospice Residence in New City, NY.
Vincent was born in Maspeth, NY on October 10, 1920 to Lena and Saverio Abbatecola. He attended Newtown High School and married Marie Arietta on September 24, 1944. Vincent was in the block and packaged ice business his entire life; first with his father on Long Island, then operating Abbey Ice & Spring Water in Spring Valley, NY until his retirement. He was tremendously proud to be an Honorary Member of the Columbian Fire Engine Co. in Spring Valley.
Vincent is predeceased by his parents, sister Louise Larocca and brother Joseph.
Vincent was loved greatly by all who survive him: his wife of 68 years Marie, his daughter Janet O'Toole (William), son Vincent (Bernadette), grandchildren Annie Donovan (Patrick), Katie, Brian, Matthew O'Toole (Joanna), Vincent and Michael Abbatecola, great-grandchildren Erin and Tara O'Toole. Vinnie loved them all dearly and will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, the Abbatecola family would like to thank and request donations be made to either of the two organizations whose compassion and skilled members provided extraordinary care and comfort to Vincent: Nyack Hospital and United Hospice of Rockland. The family is deeply grateful to both.
Visiting at Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Ascension Cemetery Chapel with the burial thereafter.
