VINCENT LANNA Obituary

Vincent W. Lanna, Retired Major General Commander 42nd Infantry Division New York Army National Guard died after a short illness on Thursday August 26, 2010 at age 84. He was born on December 23, 1925 to Ettore and Clelia Lanna in Yonkers. Vincent was a prominent Criminal Attorney for Lanna, Coppola, & Rosato Law Firm. He retired from law in 2006. He was well respected by all. He was a 2 Star General in the National Guard, a World War II Army Veteran serving his country proudly. He graduated from St. John's in 1950 and St. John's University School of Law in 1952. He started his career as an enlisted man on February 17, 1942 he was discharged on August 23, 1946. In 1949 he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant; promoted to Captain in 1954. He re-entered active duty during the Berlin Wall Crisis until May 1963, at the time he was promoted to Major and in 1969 promoted to Lt. Colonel and in 1977 as a Colonel was appointed Deputy Commander of the Army National Guard; and on February 18, 1982 received the rank of Major General. Numerous Decorations and Awards have been bestowed on him including the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife Florence (Mozdziak) his daughter Patricia (Edward - YPD) Potocki, his step-daughter Michelle (Thomas) Lambusta, his brother Robert (Katherine) Lanna. He is also survived by his grandchildren Daniel (Kimberly) Potocki, Dawn Potocki, Kristin and Nicholas Lambusta, Vincent Mattessino and one great grandchild Dominque Mattessino. He was predeceased by his first wife Marie (Repoli) Lanna. Visiting hours will be held at the New York State Armory, North Broadway, Yonkers, NY on Saturday September 4th from 10AM to 12 noon. Funeral Service will start at the Armory at 12 noon. Committal services to follow at Ferncliff Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Sisters of Resurrection, 4217 Rt. 9N, Howelle, New Jersey 07731.
