Paul Cohen

1932 - 2025

In Loving Memory of Paul Cohen (1932 - 2025)

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Paul Cohen, long time business owner and entrepreneur in Lompoc, who departed this life peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 93.

Paul was owner/operator of both The Hut and Chez Paul in Mission Hills from the 1960's through the mid to late 1970's. After selling the bar and restaurant in Mission Hills, Paul moved Chez Paul, the restaurant, to The Lions Inn in Lompoc and ran it and the coffee shop until he purchased The Star Motel which he owned until the early 2000's. Paul was a well-known and respected businessman in the Lompoc community.

Paul is survived by two sisters: Vivian and Violet; son David, David's wife Angela and three grandchildren: Tyler, Jeremy, and Evan along with extended family.

I met Paul around 2015. We lived around the corner from him. I remember seeing him drive around in the last car he owned before I met him. As the years passed, he told me how he lost his license. I would see him walk to or from Walmart and sometimes he would accept a ride, but not very often. He said he needed the exercise so he kept walking carrying his groceries. He walked his dog at least once a day. We would chat about his businesses, houses he bought, Morocco and his childhood. He told me about his family and how he appreciated them so much, especially his son and sisters that live in Canada. I will miss his smile and his way with words. So long Paul. Art D.

I first met Paul in about 1966 at his house in Vandenberg Village, he was a good friend of my Parents. As I got older our friendship continued when he opened The Hut in Mission Hills where we lived and continued even after I moved to Los Angeles, and I would see him occasionally when I went home. He was always generous and kind to me, and I'll never forget him.
