It is with profound love and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sharon Jean Virts of Purcellville, Va. Born January 19, 1950, in Alexandria, Virginia, who peacefully departed this life on August 26, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy defined by love, faith, and unfailing service to others.
Sharon shared 48 years of devoted marriage with her husband, Michael Virts. Their partnership was a testament to unwavering commitment and deep affection, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and steadfast support to all. They also created a successful garden center where Sharon enjoyed "keeping the books" and every last cent was accounted for.
For many years, Sharon worked as a cherished school cook for Loudoun County Public Schools, specifically at Emerick Elementary and Woodgrove High School, where her warm smile and generous spirit nourished countless students-not just feeding them, but also encouraging their hearts and brightening their days.
Sharon found joy in the artistry of cross-stitching and quilting, lovingly creating beautiful pieces that her family will treasure as tangible reminders of her thoughtful care. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life-she was a devoted member of The Worship Center, where she drew strength and joy through her community and taught Sunday school for many years to her church's teens. She was also very involved in all the activities and organizations her daughters belonged to; Girl Scouts, PTO, softball teams but she took such pride in being apart of the Loudoun Valley Marching Vikings where she was adoringly nick named, Momma Virts.
One of her greatest joys was spending time fishing with her grandsons, Benjamin and Cameron Burdick who affectionately called her "Nina." Those quiet moments by the water, were filled with laughter and gentle guidance to untangling fishing lines. When she wasn't fishing, she could be found in the bleachers cheering on her favorite baseball player, or in an auditorium admiring her favorite guitar player's musical skills. Many memories they will cherish forever.
Sharon's heart was open to anyone in need: she believed no one should ever go hungry, and she never hesitated to offer a meal-or a seat at her table. Her home was a sanctuary of comfort, warmth, and unconditional love.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael. Her loving daughters, Jessica (Burdick) and husband Paul, and her Christmas loving E (Erin Virts). Her beloved grandsons, Benjamin and Cameron Burdick. Brothers Ernie Booth (wife Joanne) and Dusty. Sister in law Jean Virts LaGrave. Nephews Joey and Danny Brennan, and Nathan and Caleb Booth. And many cousins who filled her summers with endless cook-outs and memories.
Sharon was preceded in death by her mother Elva Jean Beard, her in-laws Ralph and Florence Virts, niece Annette Brennan, and Aunts and Uncles whom she held so dear.
