Andrew Sack Obituary

SACK, Father J.C. "Fr. Drew" Andrew, TOR,

was called into eternal life on January 9, 2017 at the age of 84.

He was born to J.C. Andrew and Mary Virginia Sack in Cincinnati, OH on September 12, 1933. He was an honor student and graduated from St. Xavier High School, Cincinnati, OH attended the University of Cincinnati until the outbreak of the Korean War when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his service, he was a petty officer (Electronics Tech) and taught Officers Electronic School at Great Lakes NTC. He produced the 9th Naval District's recruitment radio program "Dateline - Great Lakes" which was broadcast nationwide. At the end of the war, he returned to civilian life and began his career as a pipe organ builder. Following an industrial accident, he undertook a new career as a hospital administrator in Louisville, KY, where he had re-located, and built a novel neighborhood outpatient hospital in Park DuValle. It was here that the concept of Emergency Medical Service was begun.

From early childhood, he was an avid trolley fan and was known to have operated streetcars as early as age 13. This led him to later modeling the cars in O gauge and also to establish JAS Publishing, Inc. to publish Trolley Talk magazine, an internationally circulated publication dedicated to the history, preservation and modeling of electric railways.

As a participant in a new foster-parenting program, he became a father to three foster sons, which caused him to seek a degree to better prepare the future. Attending the University of Louisville, he became a Dean's List graduate with a triple major Bachelor in Commerce degree. Following this, he then realized a life-long need to enter the ministry. Entering, Louisville Presbyterian Seminary under the sponsorship of the United Church of Christ, he graduated with a Masters in Divinity and was called to be the pastor of West Louisville United Church of Christ. Because of his Catholic background, he left the ministry and became a priest in the Anglican tradition and founded St. Michael and All Angels Church, where he has been Rector till his death. During this time he took another son into his care.

Shortly after being ordained a priest, he felt the calling to the Franciscan life and became a friar in the Third Order Regular. Upon the death of Bishop Frank Knutti, the Father General of the Order, Father Sack was made Father General of the Orders. He later undertook the publication of the Order's Magazine "Ecce Veritas".

Father is preceded in death by his two sisters, Elizabeth Anne Watson and Mary Joseph Clark and is survived by his sons, Henry V. Krauth, Jr., Darryl W. Cain, Sr., Thomas C. Thompson and David F. Holland; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

There will be a visitation on Tuesday, January 17th from 2-5 p.m. at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, "in St. Matthews". Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 18th at St. Joseph Cemetery, 3819 W. 8th Street, Cincinnati, OH.

Thank you for always being there for me. You were like a Dad to me, but most of all you were a friend. I will love you and miss you dearly.

Funny, Last night I was talking about Father with a friend who visited with him about 5 years ago. You have made a deep impact on all the lives you came into contact with. I will say a requiem Mass this Saturday and enroll your name in our book of remembrance that way you will be remembered at Mass a least 3 time each year. I will always remember your laugh and smile. Dear Fr. Drew thanks for your presence among us as His priest and Franciscan in the Holy Catholic Church Anglican Rite. On behalf of all the Bishops, Clergy, faithful and the members of the Third Order of St. Francis, thank you. May you hear the comforting words of the Master: "well done good and faithful servant" and remember us before in His presence.
Till we meet at Jesus' feet.
Bishop Leo Michael and the Bishops, the Clergy, the Faithful and the members of the Third Order of St. Francis of Holy Catholic Church Anglican Rite

I know you were going to have a lot of purposeful blunders made at your funeral from the many years of you joking with me about it. So far I have read four: Sacks, C., 84 and Joseph. I don't know if you had them do it or if they were true mistakes but I got a kick out of them. I am betting you did it from wherever you are now. I am going to miss you terribly. I love you Father. You were so good to me.
