Ann Carol Mann, SCN

Louisville - Ann Carol Mann, SCN, 83, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, died July 16, 2021, at Nazareth Home, Louisville, Kentucky. She was a professed Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 58 years.

Sister Ann Carol entered the Congregation in 1960. She was in the education ministry for many years, having earned her bachelors in education. Sister Ann Carol taught at St. Barnabas, Louisville. After St. Barnabas, she was assigned to Clarksdale, Mississippi, where she and Ann Spence, SCN (dec.), opened Holy Name Day Center for inner-city youth. From there, she went to Memphis, Tennessee, teaching at Holy Rosary and Our Lady of Sorrows. While serving in Memphis, Sister Ann Carol became an active participant in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. She marched with Martin Luther King, Jr.

She also served at Our Lady of Guadalupe Multi-Service Center, Raymondville, Texas; and in Louisville, as Director of the Louisville Tenet Association, Pastoral Associate at St. Augustine, and Pastoral Associate at Sts. Simon and Jude Church where she was in charge of the Senior Club, and managing the Clothing and Emergency Assistance Program. She also ministered at Sister Visitor Center and Nazareth Home.

After retiring, Sister Ann Carol continued her association with the Sts. Simon and Jude Senior Club. She remained faithful to her students and the people in her ministries, maintaining relationships for decades.

She is survived by extended family, and by her religious community.

The Wake will take place Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Nazareth, Kentucky, at 6:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial is on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Nazareth, at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Nazareth Cemetery will take place immediately following the Mass of Christian Burial.
