Barbara Blume Bizer

Louisville - Barbara Blume Bizer, age 91, passed away on 2/19/20 at the Sam Swope Care Center, Masonic Communities, Louisville.

Barbara, an only child, was born in Paris Crossing, Indiana in 1929, to R. Maxwell Plaskett and Naomi Elizabeth Blume who had met as students at Hanover College. Before high school, Barbara attended schools in Scottsburg, IN. She graduated from Vevay High School in 1947. Also attending Hanover College, she met and married a classmate, Kenneth F. Rhodes. A 20 year marriage produced three children: Rebecca Ragsdale and Kenneth R. Rhodes of Louisville, and Mary Margaret Jenkins (Richard) of Charlestown. Barbara's second marriage was to Dr. Mier Bizer. Barbara's step-children from that marriage are Victoria Bizer, Pat Bizer-Mahan and Beth VanCleave of Jeffersonville, Peggy Scott (David) of Pekin and Bill Bizer (Susan) of Charlestown.

Barbara worked as the Office Manager for Bizer-Cosio, MPC, her husband's medical practice, for 30 years.

Barbara and Mier traveled the world, making many friends on their travels. Many became lifelong friends and visited them here in the U.S. They had a large social group, loved to entertain, and had wonderful neighbors who were always popping in. They also maintained a residence in Hillsboro Beach, FL where they loved the sun and ocean.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Mier Bizer, an adopted brother, Robert M. Plaskett Jr., first cousins James K. Blume, and first cousin Ida Mae Blume Griffin.

Barbara is survived by her children, step-children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two cousins Betty Jean Hough Goodman of Cincinnati and Janice Shea Oster of Danville

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 27 from 11:00 to 1:00 P.m. with a Memorial Service immediately following at Grayson's Funeral Home, Charlestown, IN.
