Berl, "Number 8" is the name your geology professor, my dad, Jim Conkin, called you. The name always made you chuckle! And my dad liked that you called him "Doc!" I hope you two, No. 8 & Doc, are having some extraordinary field trips now! Thank you Berl, for inspiring so many to love nature and bless you for all the love and attention you gave to both my dad and mom, Barbara. She looked forward to seeing you monthly at the natural history meetings. You brought her great joy. Rest in peace and thank you for caring about my folks and the natural world. You are missed here on your beloved earth.

I remember the day I met Berl, he walked into my store with a petition for me to sign to protect wildlife habitat. That is the Berl Meyer I know and respect. We have been friends and co-workers ever since.
