Callie Mae Smith
LOUISVILLE - Callie Mae Smith, 87, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
She was born in Opp, Alabama on July 9, 1933 and became a resident of Louisville, Kentucky in the late 1950s where she lived the remainder of her life. She graduated from Covington County Training High School in Andalusia, AL in 1951 and then attended the University of Alabama A & M in Huntsville. She married in 1955 and raised three wonderful children.
Callie worked as the fabric department manager at Ben Snyder. She also worked from her home as a professional tailor for many years. Callie later worked at the Fashion Post for more than 40 years until most recently.
She was a member of Burnett Avenue Baptist Church and was very active there for more than 60 years. She was a member of the church missionary committee and also a past member of the women's senior chorus.
Callie was preceded in death by her father, Frank Cunningham and mother Julia Mae Jones and her former husband, Richard Smith, Sr. (2015) and a brother Charles Smith..
Survivors include children; Belita Smith, Gladys Smith (Jay Dilger, Jr.) and Richard Smith, Jr., (Donna); grandchildren, Glenda Douglas (Edward), Richard D. Smith and James Smith; 7 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Burnett Avenue Baptist Church, 6800 South Hurstbourne Pkwy, Louisville KY 40291. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 11 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
