Charles Vernia Obituary

Vernia, Charles C.,

83, passed away Wednesday November 12, 2014 at the Kindred Rolling Hills Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in New Albany and was the owner of the Vernia Monument Company for over 40 years. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the State of Indiana Board of Ethics and the New Albany Zoning Commission. He was a member the Cathedral of the Assumption Catholic Church in Louisville and was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Frederick Vernia.

Survivors include three sons, John Vernia (Phyllis), Charles Vernia (Mildred), Bob Vernia (Lori); two daughters, Mary Ann Hoback (Bob) and Joanie Ricke (Joe); five grandchildren, Kevin, Jennifer, Charlie, Jim and Bobby Vernia; and one great-grandchild, Jeremy Vernia.

A funeral Mass celebrating Charles' life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church(1752 Scheller Ln.) with burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville (1119 E. Market St.) from 3-7 p.m. Sunday.
