Clifford Phelps Obituary

PHELPS, CLIFFORD RENO SR., 64, of Louisville, passed away Sunday September 9, 2012 at his home with his loving wife by his side.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War.

He was an avid patron of Churchill Downs and a member of Twin Spires Gold Club. Clifford retired from LG&E as a service technician after 32 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Blanch Phelps; brother, Randall Phelps; and sister, Josephine.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Phelps; sons, Clifford Reno Phelps Jr., and Johnny Phelps; daughter, Kimberly Phelps; stepdaughters, Shannon Hatfield-McCoy and Belinda Hatfield; brothers, Danny, Charles and Lloyd Phelps; sister, Geraldine; and 14 grandchildren.

His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ratterman Grand Chapels, 4832 Cane Run Road with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-8p.m. Tuesday.

The year was 1966 and I met Clifford at Fort Hood Texas and spent the next year in Vietnam. We became close friends and by the grace of God we both made it back home to be with our loved ones. Clifford will be greatly missed and we send our condolences to his wife Brenda and the family.

The year was 1966 and I was fortunate to meet Clifford. We met in Fort Hood Texas and then served a year in Vietnam and became close friends and by watching out for each other and by the Grace of God we both made it home.Clifford was a great person and like a younger brother and a brave soldier. My Heart And Prayers go out to the Phelps Family. Just know that he is at peace now with no more suffering. Clifford will be many's guardian angel watching over us.
