Dorothea Rankin Obituary

RANKIN, DOROTHEA RAE, 86, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville.

She was a member of Simpsonville Baptist Church, former union member of Local 761 and worked at GE for 28 years.

She is survived by son, Gerald Rankin of Jeffersontown; daughter, Opal Frances Hawkins of Louisville; sister, Beulah Sacra of Shelbyville; two grandchildren, Anthony Rankin of Jeffersontown and Shelia Tipton of Jefferson County; and one great-grandson, Jarett Thomas Rankin of Jeffersontown.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Resthaven Cemetery Chapel. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Shannon Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Burial is in Resthaven Cemetery.

I met Dorothea two years ago as a hospice volunteer. We became very special friends and brought eachother so much joy over the last two years. She never failed to make me smile, and to surprise me with her quick wit. I love her and will miss her.
