James Leon Howard

92, a devoted husband & father, passed away peacefully surrounded with his family's love.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ethel & Arnold, sisters Mildred, Eileen OSU & Mary Jo Shory & brothers Michael & Charles.

He is survived by his wife Nora Maxine (Allen), his children Anthony (Vanessa), Mark, Steve (Jennifer), Pamela (Chuck), & Mary Beth McCarthy (Mike) & siblings Robert (Doris), Danny (Sue), Brice (Marilyn), ItaBelle.

In 1943, Jim graduated from St. Mary's Catholic HS in Whitesville & was drafted into Army & was stationed at Camp Blanding, FL & Camp Atterbury, IN, with an overseas assignment in Italy during WWII. Assigned to 36th & 142nd Infantry, they moved into South France & earned Combat Infantry Badge & Bronze Star. While serving in WWII, he contracted severe trench foot & was consequently assigned to 53rd 1st Quartermaster Repair Salvage in France, Belgium & Philippines & was honorably discharged in 1946.

Jim returned to Louisville, attended the University of Louisville & met Nora Maxine Allen whom he married on Aug 27, 1955, & worked for 43 years in fleet & lease sales management at Montgomery Chevrolet. As a devout Catholic, he was a charter member of St. Pius X Church & Knights of Columbus Assumption Council #4473. He also belonged to the 4th Degree Monsignor Bouchet Council, American Legion Highland Post #201, St. Joseph Orphan Society, Kentucky Colonels and was an avid golfer & card player. Jim had a life well lived and was a man well loved.

The family wishes to thank the many people that have helped Jim these last few years including the kind staff at Seneca Place Nursing Home and Norton St. Matthews Hospital.

A funeral mass will be offered at St. John Paul II Church (formerly St. Pius X), 3521 Goldsmith Lane, 40220, at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14th. Visitation will be at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Rd, 40218, Friday from 3:30 to 7 p.m., with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial gifts can be made to St. John Paul II Church (donation mailing address 3042 Hikes Ln, Louisville, KY 40220). Online condolences may be left at www.ratterman.com.
