Kelley, John R. Jr.,

Age, 67 of Louisville, passed away peacefully at his home on June 15, 2017. He was born September 12, 1949 to the late John R. Kelley, Sr. and Treva Moody Kelley.

Mr. Kelley was owner, Chairman, CEO, and President of Kelley Technical Coatings. He was a recognized leader in the swimming pool and spa industry having served on the National Spa and Pool Institute's Manufacturer's Council and Board of Directors for many years. He was honored to be President of the NSPI in 1996.

John held many interests. Notably he was passionate about world-class wines. He loved to engage in conversations with the sommeliers of the many fine restaurants he visited in his travels he so loved throughout North America and Europe over 40 years.

John also enjoyed a keen interest in motorsports, and participated in many road rallies as driver throughout the country. He was a lifetime member of the Sports Car Club of America. He once received a sponsored opportunity to drive for Yugo Corporation in the prestigious One Lap of America. Perhaps you saw his feature on ABC's Wide World of Sports during this fantastic journey.

John was a very intelligent man and an avid reader. He could converse on many levels on a vast array of subjects.

Mr. Kelley leaves many wonderful memories for his loving wife of 27 years, Elizabeth Kelley. He also will be greatly missed by his "family" at Kelley Technical Coatings, his sister-in law, Nancy Atz (James), and his untold number of close friends throughout the country and Canada. Everybody liked John.

A visitation is planned for Sunday, June 25th at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, from 1- 6 p.m. A celebration of John's interesting and purposeful life will be announced at a later date.

John was a great guy who, like me, was crazy about cars. I remember the Yugo one lap and his stories about the drive. The world lost a good man in John.

John was the perfect restaurant customer and not only was loyal to his restaurants but a great teacher of hospitality and always gave restaurants a chance to get to know him as a VIP. John Kelley taught us restaurant operators what a VIP was. He will be missed by many in the restaurant industry as customer, guest, friend and mentor of the finer things in life. Blessings to Beth and those who loved John.
