John Prell Obituary
Louisville - John E. Prell, Jr. was called home to the Lord on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the age of 79. John was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 24, 1942 to the late Anna Mae (White) and John E. Prell, Sr. He was an only child.
John was a proud (Tiger) graduate of St. Xavier High School (1960) and served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years. However, he returned home to continue his dream of becoming a firefighter. He joined the Jeffersontown Fire Department at the age of 16. His mother had to give him special permission to join at this young age. John served 19 1/2 years in J-town only to further his career with the Louisville Fire Department. After a 30+ year long career there, John retired as Major John Prell from Louisville's Fire Communications Bureau. He loved being a fireman and it showed by his long, decorated career. He continued serving on the Louisville Firefighters Pension Board.
John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty (Cinnamon); his daughter, Michelle Prell Harper and grandson, Zachary; his son, John E. Prell, III (Donna) and grandchildren, Tiffany and Dylan; and a host of relatives, firefighter buddies and good friends.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243. A Mass of Celebration will be at 11am on Thursday, June 17th at St. Edward Catholic Church, 9608 Sue Helen Dr, Louisville, KY 40299. Burial will follow with honors at Resthaven Memorial Park.
