Susan and Family. I am sorry for this loss you are going through. Joe still had so much living to still do. May you and your family and Joe's siblings find peace in the memories he left you with. I am so sorry, because of previous commitments I could not stop by at the funeral or visitation and express my sympathy in person.

I am sorry for your loss. I remember Mr. Fowler from Trinity. My parents were friends of his, Dave and Bonnie Meisner. I taught Jessica and Nick at St. Edward, they left a lasting impression and will forever be in my heart. Mr. Fowler taught my son, Colin Sharp, his Freshman year.
Your family are in my prayers.

Joe was my next door neighbor and buddy throughout those childhood growth years that none of us forget. I still remember meeting Joe for the first time in early summer 1957 when my parents first looked at the house next door. Joe retreated behind his father every time I tried to talk to him, a bashfulness that I don't recall ever seeing again. Like his siblings Joe was straight up in conversation, what was on his mind wasalways in the forground when he spoke. These last three decades, it was infrequent and mostly accidental that we would run into one another, something I'll always regret. But There are great memories from our earlier years that will never be erased. Smokin' Joe on the mound with his baseball successes, and one particular fan moment - Joe running out the door and around the front yard celebrating the Pirate's World Series win in 1960. I never got a straight answer from Joe as to what made him a Pittsburgh fan, but every year it was the same fan competition, Joe's dad, a Dodger's man; me rooting for the Giants and Joe following the Pirates. Sports was the glue of our friendship as kids, and Joe had many personal successes in that realm, in Little League, high school, at Bellarmine and as a coach at Trinity. I missed far too many opportunities these last years to see Joe, but I had a good long conversation with him Christmas Day last year. My condolences to his wife, Susan his children and to all the Fowler family.

I am very sorry to learn of Joes passing. He was my freshman algebra teacher and friend for my 4 years at Trinity and after. I have not seen him in years but have never forgotten him as he was an outstanding individual. I wish I could be there to let you know in person just howmuch I appreciated your husband and father. Take care and always keep the memories close.

Susan & Family,
My son, Chris Wagner and I were so sad to hear of Joe's death. My husband David was a high school friend of Joe's and when Chris went to Trinity he had the good fortune to have Joe as his math teacher. I know about the ache you must feel and the hole in your heart since I lost David a few months ago. I am sure David and Joe are reunited now sharing Trinity stories. Chris and I will be at a family reunion this weekend so we cannot attend any services. Please know your are in my prayers and we both remember Joe fondly.

Coach Fowler was my algebra teacher my Freshman and Sophomore years at Trinity. He had a way about him that I will never forget, he was very demanding academically, but somehow made class fun. I know I did my share of push-ups in class as did many of my classmates. He used to tease me by calling me my full name "Coleman Edward McDevitt III". I had run into Coach many times over the years and he always greeted me the same as he did in the classroom. I will miss him greatly.
