Joseph Johansen Obituary
85, of Louisville died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at his home.
His wit, warmth and unique gift of telling stories will be greatly missed.
Joe was born May 9, 1930. He graduated from St. Xavier High School. He earned a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry from the University of Louisville. Joe spent more than three decades working in the distilling industry as a quality control chemist.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years Mary Ruth Schmeing, whom he met on a blind date; and parents Joe, Sr. and Margaret Johansen.
Joe is survived by his children, Stephen Johansen (Gloria), Eric Johansen (Pam), Jennifer Parrish, Katrina Pate, Christopher Johansen (Herman Boyd), Rebecca Murphy (Tom), and Mark Johansen (Gina); grandchildren, Eva and Henry Cahill, Will Carr, Jackson and Veronica Murphy, Andrew and Alex Parrish, and Michael, Rachel, Jeffery, Lauren, Emma, Matthew and Evan Johansen; and great grandson Aidan Perkins.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church 2931 Pindell Avenue with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday at Embry-Bosse Funeral Home 2723 Preston Hwy.
