Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

Mrs. Trabue and family,
I just heard about Mr. Trabue's passing from Bill Weinberg yesterday. I've been at U of L for 38 years (still in Crawford Gym until they tear it down in a few months) and my best memories are the early years. I loved seeing you at our annual dept. party at the Brakmeier camp. You were always so friendly and such a big part of our HPER family. Mr. Trabue and Mrs. Brakmeier would sit in my office between classes (they shared the gym when they taught Judo and Fencing) and keep me in stitches. I'll never forget the time he took me to lunch and all his colleagues bought a round of beers at Check's. Well, needless to say Jean Kalkhof fussed at him for letting me drink a few beers during lunch time! I bet Mr. Trabue and Mr. Wood are jogging around heaven's track catching up and sharing stories from the good ol' days! I had so much respect for all those I worked for in the late 70's. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Fondly, Patsy (Lebangood) Maguire

From the time I was young, I guess near on 50 years ago, I was greeted in the hallway of church by Joe. Always enthusiastic, always expressing his love for me because God first loved him. He is truly one of the very few high impact people in my life. I am filled with joy to know of the reward that is now his but I feel so much sorrow for my friend Sarah, his dedicated bride, and his daughter Nancy which I grew up with at church.

I pray the gaping hole in the hearts of Sarah, all the children, grandchildren and great-grand children, as well as Joe's huge South Louisville Christian Church family will soon be filled with joy for his life well lived and his eternity now embraced.

Blessings to you all!

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to the family of Professor Joseph Trabue. He was an outstanding teacher and mentor for many University of Louisville students, myself included. For a number of years after his retirement he would eat lunch in and around the university and I would often join him. I treasured those moments for his wisdom and genuine concerns for others. His love and devotion to the university was exceeded only by his love for students and colleagues.

For the Trabue family-Coach Trabue was a great man whom I admired greatly. He was a caring professor and mentor....we have lost a wonderful man and he will be truly missed. The memories are many, that will never be forgotten. I know he is in a better place, and he will still be with us in spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. I first met Coach in 1965, and what an impression he made on me! He was the type of man that was compassionate, and yet demanding. I'll never forget the first day of class my freshman year as he entered the classroom. He swaggered across the room, got to his desk, turned to the class, and in only the way Coach Trabue could, he'd say "Good Morning class" with a huge smile on his face!(and this was at eight o'clock in the morning). God bless and may you rest in peace!

Deeply grieved by the loss of Joe. He was the manliest and Godliest man I will ever know. A lesson he taught me: "One word from the Bible is enough." Ever the encourager, a man of faith, prayer, and devotion to God, to Sara, and to his church. Sad to goodbye. Overjoyed knowing he has heard the words: "Well done, good and faithful servant." Looking forward to his bone-crushing hug when I see him again in glory.
