Juanita Sands Obituary
64, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015 surrounded by her family.
She was a member of St. Stephen Baptist Church, the Workforce Development Director for the Louisville Urban League, member of the NAACP Louisville Chapter, and Dress for Success.
Juanita is survived by her husband, Emmett "Gene" Sands; children, Emmett Sands, Jr., John Sands, and Stacey Williams (Marlowe); siblings, Johnetta Frierson Hayes (Henry) and June Frierson Demus (Galen); six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive visitors, 5- 8 pm Thursday at her church, 1018 S. 15th St.. Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday at the church with burial in Louisville Cemetery. A. D. Porter & Sons, 1300 W. Chestnut St. entrusted with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made in Juanita's memory to the NAACP - Louisville Chapter or Dress for Success - Louisville.

She was such a dynamic personality who had an impact on the lives of many, and she was always such a positive influence in my life when I needed her. I remember some fun times that we shared at BINGO back in the day as well as wise advice that she gave me about redoing my resume. Juanita was a true jewel, a diamond of a person. I had the pleasure of working with Juanita as a part of a Workforce Advisory Council she initiated at the Urban League. Juanita was always a delight to work with and she truly had a passion around her work and helping others. She did everything with such class and professionalism. She was a very valuable member of the Louisville community and she will be missed. I was very sad to learn of her passing, but glad to know that she is now resting in the arms of Master.

Mr. Gene, and entire Sands family, the news of Mrs. Juanita's illness and passing is a heavy load, but the Smile on her face in the picture reminds us of her beautiful & caring personality. Respect for one who cared, guided, and mentored so many. As a member of the choir I know she many times sung the words to the song "If you missing me from singing down here, come on up to bright glory, for I'll surely be singing up there." It was a shocked to learn of the passing of Juanita but it appears that God needed her as he has called her home.
I will remember the kindness she showed me when I transferred into GE many years ago. I will remember our good times at St Stephens Baptist Church and the Choir but most of all, I will remember that "over the top" personality.
Rest my sister for your journey is over and though you will be missed we celebrate your home-going.
