LaVerne Shuler Obituary

Shuler, LaVerne,

91, of Louisville, died Monday, February 20, 2017. A native of Newport, KY, she moved to Louisville in 1945 to study nursing and became a full time nurse at St. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital. In 1949 she married Roy Shuler and together they had 3 children. In addition to raising a family, LaVerne helped Roy to start and grow their own business, Valley Fence Co.

LaVerne and her husband traveled the world and loved spending their winters in Florida. They had many dear friends that they loved and cherished for decades. She loved to play bridge and golf. LaVerne was a patriot and devout catholic that supported innumerable causes and was a fervent supporter of causes supporting children and the military. She had an uncommon ability to make people laugh and feel better for having been around her.

She is preceded in death by her husband; brothers, William and Robert and sisters, Helen, Marie, Ilene and Margie.

She is survived by her children, David (Debbie), Mark (Cathy) and Nancy (Keith) Hall; three grandchildren, Jason Shuler (Kristin), Michael Shuler and Connery Hall; two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Benjamin Shuler; sister, Lenore Brinkman (Herman) and brother, John Priestle (Betty).

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. A private service will be held the following day.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus of Louisville.
