Father Leon Grantz
GRANTZ, FATHER LEON, C.P., 95, of Louisville, died August 15, 2012 at Nazareth Home.

A native of Louisville, he professed his Passionist vows in 1940 and was ordained a priest in 1946. As a Passionist priest, Fr. Leon generously served God as a teacher, vocation director, local community superior, retreat center director, editor of some Passionist publications, itinerant preacher and health care chaplain.

He is survived by his Passionist community; sister, Eleanor Fitzpatrick and many other relatives.

The Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1920 Newburg Road, with burial at a later date in the Passionist community cemetery. A Vigil will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2012, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Passionist community, 1924 Newburg Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40205.

Arrangements are in care of Bosse Funeral Home.

if it weren't for Fr. Leon Grantz, I would not be a Daughter of the Heart of Mary/We worked alongside each other at Our Lady of the Ressurection medical center in Chicago.

May good Leon rest in peace! I knew him as a man who kept embracing life! At age 70 he began a career as chaplain - he retired from that at age 92! At his retirement, the residents sang a loving "You are sunshine" Fr. Leon was that for many of us!

Not only one of my teachers in the seminary but a dear friend. I had the privilege of visiting with him and his family here in Louisville. We will all miss him.
