Henry, Luther,

89, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 in Jewish Hospital.

He was born June 1, 1926 in Irvine, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, brothers, daughter-in-law, grandson and wife Darline Henry of 43 years.

He is survived by two sons, Danny Henry (Laura Henry) and John Henry (Margot Henry) and two daughters, Sandy Henry (Candice Karmire) and Pam Shelburne (Todd Shelburne). Luther also had eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Luther served in the Army during World War II earning the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medals with the 42nd Rainbow Division in Germany and Austria. Following the war he was employed by the L&N Railroad as a painter for 46 years when he retired.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the care givers and the residences of Crescent Place Assisted Living for their compassion and true friendship.

Visitation will be held on Friday December 4, 2015 at Shannon's Funeral Home in Shelbyville, from 1:30 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 5, 2015 at noon in the funeral home with interment in Grove Hill Cemetery.

The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice or Wounded Warriors.

His name and unit will be listed in the WWII Memorial File in the January 2016 issue of REVEILLE, the official newsletter of the Rainbow Division Veterans Foundation, Inc., online and in print.
