Scott, Margaret Ann (Simon),
May 12, 1934 - April 21, 2015
Margaret Ann (Simon) Scott passed away peacefully on April 21, 2015 at the age of 80, surrounded by family. Former wife of Walter N. Scott of New York, NY for 38 years, and Stephen E. Michelman of New York, NY. Loving mother of her son David Scott and wife Meghan of Hingham, MA, and doting grandmother, "Buddy," to granddaughters Brynn and Bree Scott of Hingham, MA. Born May 12, 1934 to the late Frank and Margaret Simon of Louisville, KY. Beloved eldest sister to Nancy (Simon) Purdon and her late husband, Gerry, of Atlanta, GA, Frank Simon and his late wife, Helen, of Louisville, KY, and John Simon and wife Susan, of Albany, NY.
She was also a loving and inspiring aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews around the world.
Margaret graduated from the Louisville Collegiate School in 1952 and went on to attend Wellesley College, where she graduated in 1956 with a degree in Physics. Devoted to a life of community service and philanthropy, she served with the Association of Junior League from 1957 to 2005, in Louisville, Boston, San Antonio and New York City. When Mayor Rudy Giuliani presented her the Outstanding Lifetime Sustainer award for the Junior League, he playfully described Margaret's life of service and work as "including everything but playing center field for the New York Yankees."
After earning Masters Degrees in Political Science and Human Resources Management, her professional career included work for Bell Telephone Labs, teaching political science, research in biophysics at Harvard Medical School, working at New York City's Human Resources Administration, AMEV Asset Management, Citibank, and starting her own business, Mortgage Advisory Services, Inc., a residential mortgage brokerage firm in Manhattan.
She served in leadership roles on the Boards of The First Presbyterian Church in the City of New York, the McBurney YMCA in Manhattan, Presbyterian Synod of the Northeast, and the Flushing House in Queens. Additionally, she is recognized in Who's Who in America for her life accomplishments.
Her son, David was born in 1976 and thereafter she made it her priority to teach him the value of devotion to community service, hard work, family, and above all, kindness towards others as the core values of life.
In her free time, she enjoyed cooking French meals, travelling abroad with family, and chamber music. She enjoyed two mission trips to Central America to build homes in impoverished communities, most recently to Nicaragua in 2006 with her son and his wife. She most recently enjoyed time with her two young granddaughters, and attending church.
