Mark Gleason Obituary

Mark Cecil Gleason

Louisville - Mark Cecil Gleason, 59, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Norton Audubon Hospital.

He was born January 16, 1961 in Louisville to Marion Cecil Gleason and the late Dr. John Gleason, Sr. Mark attended St. Xavier High School, class of '79. He graduated from University Kentucky with a degree in accounting in '83. He continued his education at University of Louisville with a masters degree in business administration. He sat for the CPA exam and passed. He worked for many years at Humana as a Financial Analyst where he retired in 2018. In retirement, Mark became a Business Analytics Advisor for Cigna.

His hobbies were fishing, golfing, and going on adventures with family and friends. He loved his Wildcat basketball and football. Mark was a member of the Bonnycastle Club and considers them his second family. He was also a founding member of the OMCC (aka Old Man's Coffee Club). His contributions will be sorely missed. In his off time, he was a regular volunteer for 17 years at the Portland Promise Center, preparing taxes for those needing assistance.

He is survived by his mother, Marion; loving wife of 25 years, Ellen P. Kotheimer; siblings, Karen Barney (Kevin), Dr. John R. Gleason, Jr. (Dr. Carolyn Gleason), Jim Gleason (Lena Broomell); step-mother, Penny Dougherty; step-brothers, Gregory and Adam Friend; and many nieces, nephews and friends whom he cherished and loved.

Out of respect and concern for public health and safety, all services will be private. There will be a celebration of Mark's life at a later date. Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, St. Matthews has been entrusted with arrangements. Not sure what to say?

I first met Mark on only my second job as an engineer, and he got me through some tough times with the management with his refreshing lack of respect for authority. We became good friends instantly and over the years my wife Dru and I enjoyed very much our times with Mark and Ellen.

He will be missed greatly.

The first time I met Mark he was assigned to work on an IT project that was never right for 2 years. He fixed it in less than a week. My boss and I were impressed and we were friends ever since. He was smart w/ a wry wit and one of the toughest people I ever met. Sincere condolences.

HI Jim and John, and all Mark's family. This is tough. I remember when Mark and I were the only ones cut from the A team on our swim team, The Tarpins. All our friends still there. One day in B team practice, Mark swam underneath me with that swim cap he wore for I don't know how long. He tore it off and all that flaming red hair flew out. He was better, and we decided we would work our best to make it back to the A team. We did too! Mark is an example of Spirit and Determination, and a unique sense of humor made us great friends. I won't forget that or all the great times we had. God Bless you, you're friend, Rick Leist

I worked with Mark for 12 years at Humana. He was a great team member and a good friend. We talked bike riding a good bit and had lots of laughs. Mark played an instrumental role in creating Humanas Medicare Risk Adjustment business, a key driver in Humanas success. Im deeply sorry about your loss. Know that Mark helped make life better for others.

Mark was so much fun to work with over the last 9 months. He always showed up with a positive attitude, a quick wit, and a wealth of insight. He was a valued team member and would always pick up the phone when I needed help. He will be missed greatly by everyone here that he worked with. My deepest condolences to his family for your loss.
