We would like to express our deepest condolences and to also let the Acklin Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one, Michael D. Acklin II US Army Sergeant. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

To the family of Michael Acklin:

I never met SGT Acklin, but he was the best friend of my husband Michael, and until this every day I can see how SGT Acklin impacted my husband's life. I live here at Fort Polk and attend New Testament Christian church, and while we were at a banquet celebrating the Pastors anniversary there, SGT Acklin appeared in one of the pictures during a slide show that had been put together for the guests. Immediately that brought tears to my husbands eyes, and it was such a coincidence and surprise that SGT Acklin would be in one of those pictures. SGT Acklin is still loved and missed so dearly by my husband, because of his heart and the example of his life that he led through Jesus. I wish that I could of met him, but I do feel his presence, through the pain and love that my husband still carries for him until this very day, and because of that it is a true testimony that SGT Acklin lived with all his heart, mind, and soul for the King of Kings.SGT Acklin you are so very missed by my husband and to his family he touched my husband's life in a special way and still does.

To the family of Sgt Acklin:

I was deeply moved when I read his guest book and the bio of him. His Bishop stated it best. I thank God for the time that he allowed Michael to be with you.

We can never question God. Michael had a "heart" for Christ and his life reflected that. Michael was clearly a Soldier for Christ and I thank God that he no longer has to suffer. I am trusting God to heal the family's pain and to help you all to realize that "...weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning..."

I honor and salute Sgt Michael D. Acklin and will be forever greatful for his sacrifice(s)!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Michael, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the family of Brave Sgt. Michael D. Acklin, 2'nd.,

When the call rings out the exceptional answer. I didn't know your son but I feel he was such a person. In a sense we all are his family because he died protecting us all. Please take heart in the fact that the young man you raised is admired by every one of us. Governments start wars and the exceptional stand up to do their duty. Brave Sgt. Acklin, may you rest in peace knowing you will be reunited with your beautiful family. They await the day when you will lead them into God's kingdom. Though we are sad at your passing, we celebrate one who was truly exceptional.

I recently purchased a memory bracelet with the name of a fallen serviceman. I too serve in the US military, and looked up his name on the internet hoping to find more about this stranger's name engraved on the metal bracelet that i wear around my wrist. I was moved by everything that I read and I am proud to wear the name of this fallen soldier. I consider it a privelege to wear this bracelet, and in a way I feel as if SGT Acklin is a part of my life now.

To All Parents
“I’ll lend you for a little time a child of Mine,” He said.
“For you to love the While he lives and mourn for when he’s dead.
It may be six or seven years, or 22 or three,
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief.
You’ll have his lovely memories as solace and relief.
“I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are some lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I’ve looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to take him back again?”
For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter him with tenderness, we’ll love him while we may
And for the happiness we’ve known forever grateful stay;
But shall the angels call for him much sooner than we’ve planned.
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.”

To the family and friends of Michael Acklin, You have my deepest sympathy. It is because of warriors like Michael who pay the supreme sacrifice that you and I have the freedoms that we now enjoy. Michael is only gone from our sight for a little while sweet mother because the Lord said in his word that no greater love hath any man, than he that would lay down his life for a brother. I believe that is exactly what Michael has done. His Country, the USA, called him to duty and he served the USA with dignity and with honor. One of these days Momma your baby boy's just gonna begin to live!

To the family of Michael Acklin,

I have very fond memories of your son. I remember once having a talk with him before the war when the rigors of garrison military life were weighing heavy on him. It seemed to cheer him up. He returned the favor ten-fold to me when he could see the hectic pace of the military doing the same to me. He always had such a big warm smile, and a compassionate, caring and unbiased ear for everyone else's weighty burdens. The continual gestures of generosity he bestowed on his fellow man are a precious momento of your sons essence that all of us that served with him will always carry inside of us.

Thank you for allowing us to share your memories of Michael. Thank you for sharing your personal story. Although I had never met Michael, when his story was annouced last year, I felt a surge of pain just as if he were my own. I'm deeply sorry.

Always remember that GOD doesn't make mistakes. Michael's job on this earth was completed.

Your special angel named Mikey watches over you daily.

Peace and blessings to you and your family.

I had the honor of serving with SGT Acklin at Fort Campbell. He was a fine man, dedicated soldier, and exemplary Christian. He set a great example in his life for everyone. Our prayers are always with his family.

To the family and friends of Sgt. Michael D. Acklin. The definition of courage is not the absence of fear but in the face of fear to do it anyway. Your son had great courage and I look forward to the day, in heaven when I will meet this courageous man face to face. God bless you all as you deal with the terrible pain of losing such a fine young man.

Although your son was a stranger, my family is in his debt because he stood in harm's way for us. May God richly bless you as you carry on. We will not forget such sacrifice.

I want to say first of all how proud of this young man and I'm so very sorry for his families loss. I want the family to know that I am very proud of each and every person who fights for our rights here and gives us the freedom to live like we live. I have a brother right now serving in Kwait and I worry each and every day for him and everyone over there. I want to say that you have a very special place in my heart and thank you very much.

My sympathy goes out to Michael and his family. As we celebrate our independence tomorrow let us not forget our soldiers who are paying the ultimate price so that we here in America can ejoy this freedom. See you in heaven Michael.
