So sorry I missed the obit. Pat was one of the first persons I met when I arrived in louisville to work in the Bakery Industry in 1978. It was always a pleasure to visit the Bakery and spend some small amount of time with him. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Plehn's family.

To the entire Bowling family I am so sorry for your loss. I will remember Patrick as kind and gentle. As he has no more pain and suffering I imagine him singing from heaven above:
So as the storm clouds rage high,
The dark clouds rise, they don't bother me;
For I'm sheltered in the arms of God
He walks with me, And naught of earth shall harm me,
For I'm sheltered in the arms of God.

Very seldom in life do you meet a person whom you hit it off with instantly. You share the same sense of humor, you like the same activities, you have the same passion for God's natural world. They make you laugh, and you can make them laugh. You know instantly that you will be friends for life.Then you meet each other's loving families and you say to yourself... "no wonder I like this person... we share similar lives".
Well, that's the way it was back in 1970 when I met this country talkin' guy in my art class at St.X. He was a great and sensitive artist, he loved to hunt and fish, he liked the idea of falconry, a sport which I was glad to get him involved in.
He told me with all the surety and confidence in the world, as he one day pointed out a stunningly beautiful, big brown eyed girl... "I'm gonna' marry that girl there". And you knew at 15 he would do it someday. And though life pulled us in different directions and we were only able to touch base periodically through the years, I knew in my heart that he was one of my very best, true friends. Life doesn't afford you many of those kind of people. And as I paid my last respects and goodbyes for now, I looked at all the pictures of his life and still was able to marvel at the love and joy he brought to so many lives, both family and friends. I will miss him so much and I thank my Lord and Savior that my life was so blessed to have known him.
To his wife and children I give my heartfelt condolences. May God's everlasting love embrace you with the peace that only He can give. And may this present day's pain of loss, in time, be replaced with wonderful happy memories and the knowledge that Patrick is in sweet eternal bliss.
God bless the entire Bowling and Hettinger families.

My deepest sympathies Donna, kids and the entire Bowling family. Patrick was a good friend with a patient and understanding ear when I was a "bakery girl" many years ago. I'll never forget his kindness. I recently took a cake decorating class with one of my daughters and I tried like crazy to remember the tricks he taught me many years ago for making the perfect rose. The results were not too shabby. Love and prayers for peace and healing.
