Pauline Corbin Obituary
She was devoted to her family and renowned for her hospitality and being a fabulous cook.
The Anderson County, KY native was a resident of Louisville, Sarasota, FL, Owensboro, KY, Paducah, KY and Bowling Green. Mrs. Corbin (known by friends and family as "Mam") was an interior decorator for many years at W.T. Grant Co. and Roses Department Store. She and her husband, the late Ben D. Corbin, also owned and operated Southern Insurance Agency in Bowling Green.
She became a Christian at an early age, was a former member and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Bowling Green. For the last 45 years, she was a member of Burton Memorial Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Archie Albert Childress and Effie Dewitt Childress. She was also the stepdaughter of the late Orpha Childress. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Childress Hagan; and son-in-law, William H. Smith.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty Lou Corbin Smith; two grandchildren, Paula Anne Smith Dermody of Reno, NV, Ben Smith (Jill Perkins Smith) of Bowling Green; five great-grandchildren, McCall Smith, Corbin Smith and McKenzie Smith, all of Bowling Green and Craig Dermody and Pearce Dermody of Reno; four sisters, Jackie Whitmer, Gerry Link, Pat Estes and Janet Childress, all of Louisville; a brother, Don Katzman of Bowling Green; and very special friends and caregivers, Kristie Matlock and Simon Carmickle.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2009 and 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.jckirbyandson.com.
