Richard Bowen Obituary

BOWEN, DR. RICHARD POSTON, 89, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2005, at the Forum at Brookside. He was born June 16, 1916, in Hope, AK; he attended Malvern High School in Malvern, AK, Henderson State College in AK from 1936-1939, and graduated in 1942, from University of Louisville School of Dentistry. Dr. Bowen married his wife, the former Kathleen Scharf, on November 1, 1942. He was an Army veteran. After being discharged from the army in 1946, Dr. Bowen began his private dental practice at the Francis Building on Chestnut Street for 38 years. He also taught at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and the University of Kentucky School of Dentistry. Dr. Bowen was a member and past president of Louisville Dental Society, member of Kentucky Dental Society, American Dental Association and Kentucky Society of Periodontology all for 60 years. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen Bowen. Dr. Bowen is survived by his daughters, Marcia Bowen Kearns and her husband, C. Dant, Kay Bowen and her husband, Bert Bishop, and Eloise Gibson and her husband, Dewayne; a sister, Marjorie Petherbridge of Santa Ana, CA; and four grandchildren, Dana Kathleen Kearns, Michael Gibson, Brian Gibson and Lisa Gibson. His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd., with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at Highlands. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in honor of Dr. Bowen.
