Samuel David Long

Louisville - With deepest sorrow, we must announce the death of Samuel David Long, 38, of Louisville, on May 9, 2021. Sam was a loving son and best friend to his mother, Sherry Hoard; to his deceased father, William David Long; and to his sister, Anna Long. He was also a much beloved grandson, nephew, cousin, lover, mentor, and friend to many.

Everyone who knew Sam has lost a very bright shining presence in their lives, and will miss his joy and humor (especially his inappropriate kind) in their lives.

Sam was born March 29, 1983, in Madisonville, Kentucky, and was a member of the First Baptist Church there. He was an Atherton High School graduate, and was the catalyst for changes made there as a result of the infamous battle against school uniforms.

Sam worked for many years as a residential care provider for challenged adult men. More recently, Sam was in retail food sales management while pursuing an IT entrepreneurship. He never completed his college degree, but could fool anyone on that score due to his sharp intellect and ability to converse with anyone on almost any subject: from philosophy and politics to critiquing music and stand-up comedy. Sam's convictions were strong and he always supported the underdogs in life. He was kind, generous, and compassionate to his family, friends, and strangers and would do anything he could to help any one of them. Sam was a prolific gamer, especially as a charter Tarkov and Rust player. He also played the saxophone and guitar; was a prolific skateboarder; enjoyed painting miniatures; and was a U of L supporter, much to the chagrin of his late father, a UK fanatic. Our hearts are broken, and will never recover from this loss of such an exceptionally good human being.

Visitation will be held on May 29, 2021, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm followed by a Remembrance Service at 3:00 pm at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave, Louisville, Ky. Hopefully, we can come together in that space and have a few laughs for his sake. He wouldn't have it any other way.
