Shirley Nitzken Obituary

Shirley W. ("Grammie") Nitzken

Louisville - passed Tuesday afternoon, January 29, 2019. She was 83 years old.

Shirley is survived by her dear sister, Marilyn Jackson (Leroy) and her three children: Marty Nitzken (Marianne), Gary Nitzken (Laura), and Connie Nitzken Mulcrone (John). Shirley had nine grandchildren: Mollie, Shane, Shelby, Anna, Lillie, Kyle, Martin, Ben, and Samantha. Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bud Nitzken, mother Thelma, father Richard, and brother, Jack Wimsett.

Shirley's life was centered around her family, friends, and faith. Shirley was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and a caretaker of the sick, delivering communion to multiple hospitals in the Louisville area. She was a loving friend and enjoyed her card and homemakers clubs, spending many hours creating and laughing. She enjoyed cooking for luncheons at Lourdes and baking her famous cakes for members of her family and friends.

Shirley never met a stranger anywhere she went. She was a loving mother figure to many, not just her family, and will forever be remembered for her selflessness and generosity. Her cheerful spirit and compassion will be truly missed.

Shirley's Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM on Saturday, February 2nd at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 508 Breckenridge Ln, Louisville, KY 40207. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 - 8 PM on Friday, February 1st at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Louisville, KY 40205.
