Thelma McCarty Obituary
Louisville - Thelma Maxine McCarty 91 of Louisville passed away August 9, 2018 at Symphony at Oaklawn. Born March 12, 1927 in Dunmore, WVA she was the daughter of Cecil and Pansy Shinaberry. She married Donald E. McCarty in Urbana, Ohio and two sons, James Michael and Mark Sheldon were born to this union.
A graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree she was a teacher of 22 years, who taught in Greene and Champaign Counties in Ohio. She retired from the Fairborn City Schools and in 1993 moved to Prospect, KY. to be closer to her family and was a member of Church Christ United Methodist .
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. McCarty; son, James M. McCarty; sister, Twila Simmons, and her parents.
She is survived by her son, Mark S. McCarty (Deborah); grandchildren, Shannon Wolfe (Wes), Brent McCarty (Ashley), Justin McCarty, Chelsea McCarty; great grandchildren, Jason, Harper, Leo, and Bo; sister in law, Libby McCarty; and nieces, Janet, Linda, Karen and their families.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday August 15, 2018 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Rd., East Louisville. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. Thursday August 16, 2018 at Oak Dale Cemetery in Urbana, OH.
Expression of Sympathy in lieu of flowers can be made to her church.
