I met Theresa in 1996. She was my very first nursing clinical instructor. I called her "The Nurse Nazi" because she was so small, but so mighty! I absolutely loved her from the very first time we met, and had kept in touch with her until the last year or so. She was very passionate about nursing, and equally as passionate about her family. She will be missed! She always made me smile, looking up at me (I am 6'4"). One of my very first dealings with her was in clinicals at Nazareth Home. She was demonstrating something, and I interupted her and said, "Ms. Martin, could you stand up? We can't see you." (of course, she was already standing). She had a great sense of humor!

Wayne and Family,
Walter and I were very shocked and saddened to hear the news about Theresa. We have many fond memories of the times we spent together in our younger lives. Theresa, Pat and Walter grew up together and over the years shared many adventures and experiences. In 1966 when we were married, Theresa was the maid of honor in our wedding. Although we have not stayed in close touch over the years, her passing brings very sharply into focus how delicate life really is and how valuable good friends truly are.
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Love,
Janet and Walter Gould

Theresa was my EMT instructor more than 10 years ago, but she has been a major influence in my life. She was a great encourager. She was always stern, but earned great respect from everyone she taught. Because of her influence, I not only became the BEST EMT I could be, I furthered my education, and am now an assistant Director of Nursing. I continue to practice the work ethic Theresa helped install in some of my most impressionable years. I regret not being able to share my accomplishments with her personally, but felt it necessary to let you, her family, know how much I still appreciate her influence. God Bless you!

Dear Wayne and Family,
Many years ago at the corner of Clark Ave. and Rivers End Dr, I saw Theresa for the first time. She was sitting on the ground trying to fix her skates. I said, "Little girl, do you want me to help you?" She said no that she could do it herself. We were both seven years old. After that day we spent our childhood as best friends. We played endless hours at the Sand Banks, built huts in the woods across from my house near the marsh, and waded through the mud in Hayners Creek on our way to the Vernon River. We never once cut our feet on the oyster beds. Where do you think I learned to play Penny Annie Poker, Monopoly, Crazy Eights and Battle? Theresa and Pat taught me. I remember Mrs. Hughes wouldn’t allow Theresa to go swimming until after the Easter holidays. We really celebrated then. Theresa always had great stories to tell when she got home from her yearly summer vacation with The Seven War Dogs at Folly Beach. They always ate lots of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and stayed on the beach all day. She always had a blistered nose after that trip ever year. I still remember the day I accidentally shut Granny Hughes’s car door on her finger. We were playing inside of the old black Chevrolet and were in a hurry to do whatever came next. I still feel regretful. She was so brave and said it didn’t hurt. There was a dent in her finger so I think it was numb. One day I went to visit Theresa at Nursing School and she introduced me to my husband, Kirby. We’ve been married over 40 years. Oh, yes, I remember Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Hughes, Granny Hughes, Pat, Carol and Jon Jon. They were a big part of my life. It was so sad when she told me about Granny Hughes’s passing. Pat was like one of my own brothers, when he died, everyone was devastated. Theresa always was such a strong and smart person. When Kirby and I talked to her and Wayne at one of our class reunions, she told us about her work and her family. The warmth and love she spoke of for Wayne, her children, grandchildren and for Wayne’s family was enormous. We are all so fortune to have had her in our lives. I can’t even begin to imagine the family’s feelings of loss. Theresa will always remain in my heart and mind. She was my best friend. Wayne, you and all of Theresa’s family are all in our prayers. My mother and all my brothers and sisters – Tim, Bill, Toni, and Debra also send their deepest sympathy to all of Theresa’s family.
Love, Cheryl and Kirby

Our sincere love and deepest sympathy to all of you. We were sadden to hear of your loss as well as ours. Theresa was a wonderful and vivacious person and we shall miss her. She was always so welcoming, Ken and I reminiscence about our drop in on you all in Kentucky when you lived in a trailer with no children yet. She was so cute about informing me about of her future girls. She was always so thoughtful and kind to Eva, and we so appreciated her many acts of kindness to our family. Our prayers are with you and your family. With love to all of you, Ken and Julie Roberts

I first met Theresa through my good friend, her sister Carol, when she taught CPR/First Aid to our Scout Troop. She didn't know what a stranger was and made everyone immediately feel comfortable and at ease. I met her several times again at Carol's home and discovered she was one of the funniest, warmest, most delightful people I have ever met. Even though our friendship had just begun, I felt as if I had known her all my life. She was one of those people who gathered others into a special circle of love and made you feel an immediate part of her life. I am so sorry for the family's sudden loss of this loving person. She touched so many lives memorably, including mine. I will remember her laughing and telling outrageous stories of her childhood with Carol, and hope that memories of her love, caring, and sense of humor will comfort her family and friends throughout this very difficult and sad time. My prayers are with all of you.

Theresa will be greatly missed, especially in the EMT training world. She made the difference in producing "Thank God" EMTs instead of "Oh My God" EMTs. I was privileged to be in her EMT class several years ago and valued her as an instructor. May God be with her family during this time of sorrow.

Theresa was a second Momma to me, and I'll never forget her guidance, her laughter, her hugs, OR her scoldings. I have a memory I'd like to share. I was to spend the weekend with Cindy and had forgotten my bathing suit. Theresa decided to pick one up for me on her way home from work. You'll never guess what color it was. Yes, I had become the proud owner of the most ORANGE bathing suit Brandenburg had ever seen. I loved her dearly and cherish ALL of the memories of being with you guys. You're in my heart and in my prayers. Julia

Carol and Jon,
I am so saddened by the loss of "T-tah" (that's what I think of when I think of Theresa). I'm flooded with memories that go all the way back to elementary school. I'm sorry that I can't physically be with you at this time, but know that I am with you in spirit and prayer. From what I've read, Theresa has remained a loving, caring person. My heart goes out to the entire family. May God bless you all.

I was fortunate enough to have Theresa twice as my clinical instructor at JCC. She was the most patient, caring, and knowlegeable teacher I have ever had. When I began working at Sts Mary's and Elizabeth she became not just my teacher but my co-worker, and my friend. Theresa was one of the happiest people I've ever met. She was so full of love and she had enough for everyone. I remember how she would glow when she would talk about her "grand-babies" and how excited she would get when she knew she would see them soon - and loved her Wayne more than anything. She talked about him in clinical and at work, and her great love for him was obvious. She would also brag about her kids to us-she was so proud of them all. Theresa had so many interests and was involved in so many people's lives. Any football or basketball game I happened to miss she was always there to fill me in with a play by play. She loved teaching her EMS classes, her nursing students, and working with her church. I will never forget Theresa. She was a mentor, a role model, and a friend. I loved her very much. My thoughts and prayers are with all her family and friends.

Theresa was an awesome nurse, fabulous coworker and from our conversations she must have been a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. We frequently had conversations about family life, especially those dear grandbabies that I know she was crazy about. I had the fortunate opportunity to work with Theresa for a short time. Theresa was a very devoted nurse. In fact, I remember having a recent conversation with Theresa about how long she had been a nurse and how she still liked it. She was always there to answer my questions and give advice to help assure me in times of need. She will be deeply missed. I will keep Theresa and her family in my thoughts and prayers.

Theresa & I started Caritas a month apart and worked here this past 5 years togeather. We were co-workers as well as friends away from work. She had a passion for nursing as well as teaching. Wayne, words can't express the deep sympothy I have for you, I know you were the light in Theresa's life and I always enjoyed her sharing stories about you. Jean and Cindy, I had the pleasure of meeting you at the Harrison Co. Fair while watching the truck pull. I know I don't have to tell you what a wounderful person your mom was.My son volunteered here last summer and one of his favorite things to do was joke around with Theresa. Jaycie, Brady, and Cody your grandmother talked about you guys all the time, she was so pround of you. I can't tell you how much she will be missed here. I had the pleasure of going to the boat and race track with her several times and she always managed to come out a head. I will miss her greatly, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I met Theresa in the 10th grade and we graduated H S together. Her father and mine worked together for many years. We were buddies and have stayed in touch all this time. As a teenager she was the same funny, caring, people-person that I am reading about from those of you who knew her only a few years!! Wayne (and girls), I can only imagine how you must be feeling. I have been talking to some of our classmates and you need to know there are people all over this country who are thinking of you. She was our friend, too! Wayne, if you ever find yourself in south Georgia and need a friend or a rest stop please feel free to call me! I am sorry I couldn't deliver my feelings to you in person. May God bless you all!

Words cannot express the depth of sadness I feel after hearing the news of this tragedy. I worked closely with Theresa at Caritas for three years. Theresa was good, very good at everything she was. She was an inspiration to me as a nurse, but especially as a parent. She encouraged my wife and myself through some very difficult times, and rejoyced with us at the birth of our son. I cherish my memory of her and wish the family to hear what I am certain they already know. Theresa loved you more than anything, with everything she did and said. Her constant expressions of love and concern for you blessed and encouraged me. It was my honor and privilege to have known her. I extend my deepest sypathies to you all at this difficult time and please know the world is better having had Theresa in it.

I worked with Theresa for almost 3 years. She was the most caring and loving person I have ever had the priveliage to know. She was a wounderful nurse, whose devotion to her patients was an inspiration to many. Theresa was a person I was glad to call a friend. However, she was always more like my mom at work, always worried about me and trying to help with any problems I may have been having. I always looked forward to hearing all about her grandchildern after she had spent the weekend with them. I will deeply miss her.
Wayne, you were the love of her life and anyone could tell it by the way her eyes lit up when she was telling a story about you. You and the girls have my deepest sympathy and will be in my prayers. I was just blessed to get to know such a wounderful lady.

Theresa was such a special person. Not only the model employee but a good friend. She loved her family so dearly and spoke of each of you frequently.
Her dedication to her patients showed daily. Always striving for perfection and the very "best care." I recieved daily compliments from her patients.
One of Theresa's best qualities was her inability to accept "the norm."
Theresa was very respected by her all who knew her. The sadness in the hospital yesterday, as word of her tragedy spread, was unprecidented. There was not one area of service that did not stop me to tell me how sorry they were that she was gone. Many tears were shared and many hearts breaking.
We loved her so much. It will not be the same without her. My prayers are with you.

I have worked at St. Mary's for 6 yrs. and 5 of those on 2B. I loved Theresa. She had such a zest in her. She loved Wayne, her girls and grandchildren so much. She was so proud of her family and spoke so highly of each one and loved to bring pictures to show. She loved her church and spoke often of it. She loved sports and always tried to be at the grandkids games, if she could make it after work. She and I had went with work to Aztar and had such a good time. She loved doing that and just having a good time, laughing in general. She was my buddy and my friend. My prayers go out to the family.
