William Hancock Obituary
He was born on July 26, 1942, in Floyd County, VA. He was a 1960 graduate of Check High School and graduated from Virginia Tech in 1966. After becoming a CPA, he served as the chief financial officer of several companies and retired from Smithfield Foods.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Hancock Grimes; his father, William H. Hancock, Sr.; and his son, Matthew Lee Hancock.
He is survived by his wife, Van (Venicia) and their sons, Robert of Banner Elk, NC, and Luke of Louisville, KY; his former wife, Bunny of Roanoke and their son, Will (Angela) and granddaughter, Sierra, of Louisville, KY. He is also survived by his brothers, Frank (Mary Alice) of Check, VA, and Jimmie (Terri) of Radford, VA; sisters, Media Rains of Pittsgrove, NJ, and Sharon Matlack (Rudy) of Franklinville, NJ; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 28, 2013 from 4-6 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel, 4257 Brambleton Ave., Roanoke, VA. 24018.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013 11 a.m. at Havens Chapel United Methodist Church, 3375 Daniels Run Rd., Check VA. 24072, with Pastor Darren Landon presiding.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Bill to the American Cancer Society.
