CHELMSFORD -- Anthony R. Stairs, 54, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ann (McDevitt) Stairs to whom he has been married for 30 years.

He was born in Lowell on September 26, 1960 and was a son of the late Ralph and Madeline (Lavigne) Stairs.

Prior to his retirement, Anthony served for 29 years as a Lowell Firefighter, most recently on Engine 2 on Branch Street. He enjoyed working in his garden, riding his motorcycle and going to bike week. Anthony also loved to cook, especially for his fellow firefighters at the station. Above all, Anthony cherished his family and time spent with them. He had a generous spirit and was always helping someone.

In addition to his wife, Anthony is survived by a daughter, Allison Stairs of Chelmsford, sister Nina Pickles and her husband William of Laconia, NH, brother-in-law John Clark, Retired Lowell Firefighter, niece and nephews; Kelly Clark, Ryan Clark, and David Stairs, his in-laws, William and Nancy McDevitt, Sr. of Tewksbury, Jeanne and Ed Campbell, Joan and Paul Fleury, Maureen and Richard Cefalo, William and Janet McDevitt, Jr., Robert McDevitt, Cathy McDevitt and her companion Mark Leterneau, and Colleen Hillson, several cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Raymond and David Stairs.

STAIRS -- At the request of the family there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 o'clock at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lowell Humane Society, 951 Broadway St., Lowell, MA 01854. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD.
