Loving wife, mother, and grandmother

LOWELL -- Barbara Kadlec, 61, returned to the angels Saturday, March 12, 2016, following a brief illness.

She was born in Cambridge in 1954 and raised by Dorothy and Lawrence Doyle. She graduated from Medford Vocational Technical High School with a certificate in cosmetology. She worked as a secretary for many years for St. Lutheran Church and the National Park Service and also was heavily involved with her church and community.

In her later years, Barbara served as the voice of Chapman Fuel, making every customer into a friend. With many of her customers, she knew about their children, their grandchildren and what was going on in their lives and would stay on the phone long after the business at hand was done to talk about them.

She loved to make baby blankets for the local hospital and was well known to never turn a blind eye to someone in need, no matter how little she had at the time. She had the gift of making anyone feel instantly at ease and comfortable regardless of their personal situation.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, David Kadlec of Lowell; her children, Lawrence Kadlec and daughter-in-law, Amanda Kadlec of Woburn, Edward Kadlec and fiancé, Reynold Chase of Concord, NH, Jonathan Kadlec, of Lowell, and Philip Jefferson of Cambridge. She is also survived by her sister, Deborah Chapman and husband, Roy of Dracut; friend and sister-in-law, Patricia Coote; grandson, Lawrence Kadlec Jr. and granddaughter, Tayleine Osorio of Woburn; nieces, Meghan Chapman, Nicolet Chapman, and Noelle Chapman of Dracut, Crystal Shamaly of Lowell, and Holly Stern of Beverly; nephews, Timothy Hasserlat of Gloucester and Edward Coote Jr.; brother-in-law, Stephen Kadlec of Lowell; cousins, and too many friends to count.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation at bcrfcure.org.
