Brian Coutu Obituary

Brian L. Coutu
avid weightlifter

DRACUT -- Brian L. Coutu, a Dracut resident, formerly of Chelmsford and Lynn, passed away Monday, May 3, at the Lowell General Hospital. He was 31.

Born in Lowell on May 27, 1978, Brian was a son of the late Robert "Kooch" Coutu and Susan MacDonald who survives him.

Brian was a graduate of Chelmsford High School, Class of 1997, where he participated in several sports, especially wrestling which was his favorite. Brian placed 3rd in the State Championship his Senior year.

He loved weight lifting and spent many years muscle training. Brian was a member of Best Fitness in Chelmsford and Nashua.

He won several trophies for power lifting at various weight lifting competitions.

Brian was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing. Most of all he cherished time spent with his daughter Tayla.

Brian received treatment in the detoxification unit at Tewksbury in 1999 for addiction. He then entered into the CAB recovery program in Tewksbury. He furthered his treatment and graduated from a six month program at the Ryan Halfway House in Lynn. Brian was very active in his recovery and became a counselor at the Ryan Halfway House.

He was employed as a laborer for the Ostrander Corporation of Somerville until economic conditions forced his unemployment in 2007.

Brian had 10 Successful years of recovery but relapsed in 2009.

He was a very good person and had a heart of gold. Brian treated everyone with respect and was courteous and polite to all. His mother Stated, "I couldn't have asked for a better son and God gave me the one he wanted me to have." Only a fool would say no when God calls one home. Brian was not a fool. This is truly earth's loss and without a doubt Heaven's gain.

Surviving him besides his mother are his Identical twin brother, Bruce Coutu; his former girlfriend, Kacie O'Donnell and their beautiful five year old daughter, Tayla; paternal grandmother, Pauline Coutu; two uncles, Clifford and David MacDonald; great uncle, Ralph Knapp; aunt and uncle, Lorraine and Fred Cronin; several cousins including Chelsea MacDonald; and numerous friends and companions including, Chrystal Bernard.

He was the grandson of the late Clifford and Irene MacDonald, and Walter Coutu, and nephew of the late Ralph and Gary MacDonald.

Brian lost his battle with addiction on May 3, 2010.

COUTU -- His Memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM in Matthews Memorial Church, 128 Gorham St. (Rte. 3A), Chelmsford. All are invited to attend. For condolences, please visit www.mckennaouellette.com

Bruce,

I was very sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. I extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Your brother was such a wonderful person and a great father, son and brother. He was always willing to help others and asked for nothing in return.

I'm sure that he would want all of us to celebrate the good life that he had. We can all be thankful that we had him in our lives and continue to remember him as the great guy that he was.

Please know that my family and I will be here for you now and in the future. If there is anything that we can do, please let us know.

In Sympathy,
April Constantineau
