Brian,
I was out of town when Allan told me about Cindie. I remember her beautiful smile and charming laugh. We were all so young then and yet those four years created friendships that have withstood the miles and years. It seems like only yesterday. Please be sure she'll live on in my heart and never be forgotten. I can't really imagine what you're going through, but we wish you strength and send you love.

Brian and boys,
Please accept my most heartfelt condolences. Cindie filled the room with her spirit and never met a stranger. She was truly a wonderful person. I feel equally fortunate to have known her and angered to have lost her so senselessly and so soon. I can't imagine the loss you are feeling right now. With time maybe this will make sense, but right now, in this moment, there is no sense to be made. Cindie was simply taken away too soon. I wish I could be there to say goodbye with you, but you are all in my thoughts.

After Judy left for work this morning, I reread the emails about Cindie and my thoughts were filled with memories of her with her family. As a powerful sadness came over me I wandered into our bedroom and was drawn to a west facing window, Sadie one of our golden retrievers sat at my feet. The sky was reflecting the dawning of a clear cold morning. There low on the horizon a full moon was shining down through a few thin streaky clouds onto the rolling Iowa hills covered with deep and drifted icy snow. That pastoral scene formed the thought in my mind – “Cindie would have framed and captured that scene with her camera and froze it for all of us to enjoy!” And as I watched for a few minutes the moon slide behind a thin dark line of cloud and reemerged, it looked for all the world as if God had blinked away a tear in sorrow at our loss of Cindie.
