Fred Marden Obituary

Fred J. Marden, Jr. Groton, U.S. Army veteran; 76 Groton Fred J. Marden, Jr., 76, a resident of Groton died on August 18, 2007 in Lowell, MA. Fred was born on June 19, 1931, in Boston, MA to the late Frederick J. Marden and Mary (Rice) Marden. He was educated through the Wakefield, MA school system. At 19 years of age he joined the U.S. Army and served our country during the Korean War years. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Fred worked as a machinist for Murray Printing Company in Westford, MA for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He was an active member of the Wilmington Lions Club; volunteering and fund-raising for many years. Fred enjoyed memberships to the Chelmsford Elks #2310 of which is was a past officer, the Westford American Legion #159, the Franco American Club of Westford and the Westside Social Club of Wakefield. His favorite pastime in recent years was to visit New England area Elks Lodges to trade and collect lodge pins. He was a champion chess player and loved a good game of cribbage. He is survived by two daughters Cynthia J. Tanner and her husband Daniel of Cypress, TX and Nancy L. McGrail and her husband William of Dracut; four grandchildren Justin McGrail of Dracut, and Mallory, Harrison and Benjamin Tanner, all of Cypress, TX; a brother Thomas J. Marden and his wife Joan of Wilmington; two sisters Patricia McGovern of Dracut and Joan Marden of Watertown, NY; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Thomas E. "Ed" McGovern of Dracut. MARDEN Fred J., Jr., age 76. Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. His funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:45 AM, followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church, 115 Wheeler Road in Dracut.
