Frederick R. Radcliffe

Frederick R. Radcliffe Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather Westford Frederick Roberts Radcliffe, 82, a 37 year resident of Westford, and former resident of Titusville, Florida, died Saturday at Emerson Hospital from complications of Parkinson's disease. He was the beloved husband of Connie (Iamurri) Radcliffe with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage this past August. He was born on August 30th,1925 in Biddeford, Maine and was the son of the late Elizabeth (Dudley) Baker of Setauket, New York, and the late Dr. Frederick Radcliffe of Haverhill, Massachusetts. He attended Culver Military Academy, graduated valedictorian of Biddeford High School. He enlisted in the US Air Force and flew P51 fighter planes until the end of WWII. He then continued his education at Purdue University and graduated with honors from University of Pittsburg in Physics and Electrical Engineering. He worked for 32 years for General Electric at the Kennedy Space Center, Coco Beach, Florida and then at Hanscom Air Force Base, Bedford, Massachusetts. He also worked at Lockheed-Sanders in Nashua, New Hampshire. He is credited with the development and design of the missile guidance systems used by NASA during the Gemini, Mercury and Apollo missions. After his retirement, he worked for his son-in-law's Domino's Pizza Franchise. He was an avid pilot, sailor, windsurfer, golfer and active member of many Westford Town Committees. Most of all he loved his family and spending time with them. He is survived by his wife, Connie and four children, a son Dr. Marc D. Radcliffe and his wife, Cathy and their daughter, Sean, Newport, Minnesota; a daughter Lisa Radcliffe Harrington and her children, Garrett and Kenda, Marlboro, Massachusetts; a daughter Jill Radcliffe Byrd, her husband L. Don Byrd and their children, Palmer, Nicholas and Alana, Oceanside, California; a daughter Amy Radcliffe Schembechler, her husband Geoffrey D. Schembechler and their sons, Ryan and Kyle, Dunstable, Massachusetts. He is survived by brothers Richard Baker of Colorado and David Baker, and a sister Susan Baker, both of New York and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Connie's sister, Mary Carbone Madison, Wisconsin and her children, David, Kathy, Karen, Paul, Kim, Marybeth and Matthew and their families. He was also the brother of the late William Judd, P. Sterling Radcliffe and a late brother-in-law, Dr. Paul P. Carbone. Fred's family will host friends Wednesday, November 21st at the Westford Regency from 3-7 pm.
