Gerald Murphy Obituary

Gerald P. Murphy of Dracut, Sears retiree, Korean War vet; 77 DRACUT, MA Gerald P. Murphy, 77, of Dracut, died Friday, August 1, 2008, at Saints Medical Center. He was the husband of Jane H. (Biedron) Murphy, to whom he was married for 49 years. Born in Lowell, on September 1, 1930, he was a son of the late George P. and Marion (Kelly) Murphy. Mr. Murphy was educated in Lowell schools and graduated from Lowell High School. He served two terms in the United States Navy, one being during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He worked as a salesman for Sweda Cash Register in Stoneham, MA. He then worked in security for Arthur D. Little in Cambridge, and as a maintenance man for Sears in Lowell until his retirement. Thereafter, he worked part-time as a telemarketer for the Lowell Sun. In his spare time, Mr. Murphy loved reading, traveling, making others laugh, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Mr. Murphy is survived by a son, Thomas J. Murphy and his favorite daughter-in-law, Nancy of Dracut; a brother, Paul Murphy and his wife, Mary of Maine; three grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler, and Hailey Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and all his favorite godchildren. He is also predeceased by a son, John L. Murphy, and three brothers, Frank, William, and George Murphy. MURPHY Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT on Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM. His funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday at 9 A.M., followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 A.M. at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Dracut. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220.
