Gertrude H. Brophy

1930 - 2022

Gertrude H. (Gill) Brophy of North Kingstown Rhode Island passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Leonard T. Brophy, a daughter of the late Patrick Francis and Ann (Kelley) Gill, and one of their nine children. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, Gertrude attended and graduated from St. Patrick's School. Gertrude and Lenny married in 1952 and moved to Dracut, Massachusetts where they raised their family and resided for 62 years. They moved to Wickford in 2015 to be closer to their daughters. She had a long career at the Internal Revenue Service in Andover before retiring in 1990. She enjoyed traveling, early morning walks in Boston, and spending time with her family, most especially her grandchildren.

Gertrude was the loving mother of Margaret A. Cleary (husband, Michael) of Bristol, RI, and Maureen B. Galster (husband, Peter) of Wickford, RI; grandmother of Meghan B. Cleary of Hoboken, NJ, Kathleen G. Cleary (husband, Dr. Dan DePietro) of Philadelphia, PA, Margaret A. Galster of Newport, RI, and Thomas Galster of Newport, RI. She was predeceased by siblings Sr. Patricia Gill (SND), William Gill, Virginia Maziarz, John Gill, Barbara Monette, Daniel Gill, and Frances Kirkpatrick. She is survived by her sister Margaret Latulippe, sisters-in-law Midge Gill and Beverly Gill, and her many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Throughout her life, Gertrude remained close to her large extended family and was always there to support and help them when needed.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 10am-12pm, followed by a funeral service, on Monday, November 28, 2022 in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Rd, North Kingstown. Her burial will be privately held in the RI Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, at a later date.
