James V. "Jim" Cusick

James Vincent Cusick ("Jim"), 76, a longtime resident of North Billerica, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of Karen Marie (Porlier) Cusick. Jim is survived by a son, Damian Marcus Leier, his sister, Annmarie (Cusick) Gorton, and his brother John F. Cusick. He was the son of the late James Vincent Cusick, Sr. and Olga (Mikkola) Cusick. He was the brother of the late Michael J. Cusick. He also leaves behind three nieces and one nephew: Sandra Cusick; Tracey Cusick; Elaine Cusick; and John Eric Cusick.

Growing up in Brighton, Jim attended St. Columbkille Elementary and High School, and graduated in the Class of 1964. After graduation, he attended classes to become a licensed plumber and completed an apprenticeship. He worked on several construction sites in Boston and other parts of the country. In 1983, Jim joined the facilities staff at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, where he worked as a plumber for 28 years until his retirement in 2011.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed being with people. He will be remembered as a wonderful friend to all who ever knew him. He was an active member of the Woburn Sportsman's Club, and there enjoyed trap shooting and many cribbage games with his friends there. He was a very active parishioner at St. Mary's Church in Chelmsford, where he served as Greeter for over 20 years, and took care of various tasks around the church. Jim loved all animals, especially his three pet cats, Bailey, Julie, and Thumbalina. He also kept bird feeders and bird houses in the backyard, enjoying their antics along with the squirrels and other backyard critters. Jim loved reading, woodworking, and helping other people wherever and whenever he could. His kindness and friendliness will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 16, from 2 – 4 pm in the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 17 at 11 am at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., CHELMSFORD. KINDLY MEET AT CHURCH.
