Janet Mahoney Obituary
On July 11, 2021, there was a moment of silence at thrift shops, souks, flea markets and yard sales everywhere as one of their greatest patrons, Janet Wallace (born Cassely) Mahoney passed away. Born on July 25th, 1939, Janet was just shy of her 82nd birthday. She grew up in Billerica MA in the area known as Pinehurst with her parents Murray and Jean and her brother Peter Cassely (deceased). It was there that she also met her husband John Edward Mahoney, who survives her. Married for close to 60 years they were the dynamic duo known to friends and family as Jack and Janet (or Janzy as some of us liked to call her).
Over the course of her life Janet held many "titles" that she was very fond of. Among them was "The Littlest Bowler", "International Shopper", and "Haircut Slut" (inside joke). But her favorite title was that of G-Ma to her two grandsons, Patrick Mahoney now living in Washington state, and Sean Mahoney (formerly of Groton, MA) who is deceased, but is no doubt one of the first people she has gone to look for.
Janet is also survived by three of her four children: David Mahoney of N. Hampton, NH, Douglas Mahoney of Seattle, Washington, and Brenda Mahoney of Manchester, NH. Her son Brian Mahoney is deceased. Jack and Janet lived in Chelmsford, MA for many years before moving overseas where she earned her "International Shopper" title while living in Amman, Jordan and Munich, Germany, as well as many of the other travel adventures she enjoyed. Jack and Janet eventually settled in Maine, living in York and Kittery, where Janet loved to work at her beloved thrift shop. No one could fill a bag for a buck like Janet and she absolutely loved to shower people with her thrift shop finds. Janet had boundless energy which we find difficult to believe is gone but her spirit, tremendous sense of humor and love for her friends and family lives on for all of us who had the great pleasure of knowing her. We loved you good Janet.
