Joseph Ahearn Obituary

Beloved Father and Grandfather

LOWELL

Joseph "Bud" L. Ahearn Jr., age 75, a retired electrician of Dracut, passed away on October 9, 2021 at home while being cared for by family following a short battle with cancer.

Joseph was born in Lowell, MA to Mary (Hartigan) and Joseph L. Ahearn Sr. He graduated from Lowell High School and obtained his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Lowell Technological Institute. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and upon returning obtained his Masters Electrician's License. In 1973, he married his childhood sweetheart, Gail J. Keirstead, who preceded him in death on November 10, 2019.

Joseph, known as Bud to family and friends, was an avid outdoorsman and nature enthusiast who enjoyed fishing and hunting trips with his brothers and friends. He enjoyed camping, boating, hiking, and sipping a good Scotch. He was a member of the Tyngsboro Sportsmen's Club and attended Marsh Corner Community Church. He could identify almost any bird by sight or sound and, if stumped, always had his "bird book" as reference. He was a voracious reader with a passion for financial planning.

Bud is survived by his children, Erin Inglis and her husband Dale, and William Ahearn; his grandchildren Michaela Mentzer, Shayla Inglis, Liam Ahearn, Avery Ahearn, and Aubrey Inglis; his sisters Joanne Finnegan and Eileen Thomas; his brothers Mike Ahearn and his wife Diane and Richard Ahearn and his wife Anna; his sister-in-law Cheryl Keeney; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bud was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Francis J. Finnegan Jr. and Merrill "Skip" Thomas Jr.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Fay McCabe Funeral Home, 105 Moore Street, Lowell, on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 4 pm until 8 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Marsh Corner Community Church, 317 Pelham Street, Methuen, on October 15, 2021 at 11 A.M. Please meet at the Church. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bud's memory to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
