Joseph Lepine Obituary

DRACUT- Joseph "Leo" Lepine, 101 years old, a longtime resident of Dracut passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday December 20, 2020. He was the beloved husband of the late Raymonde E. (Nichols) Lepine, who died in 1991.

He was born in Lowell on December 26, 1918 and was the youngest of nine children of the late Onesime and Angelina (Malo) Lepine. He received his education the Lowell school system. At the age of 16, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. (CCC), where he earned "A dollar a day".

Leo proudly served his country in The United States Army during World War II. Fighting overseas, he was in the 2nd Armored Infantry Division known as "Hell on Wheels". He fought throughout Europe, including the Battle of The Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and other citations. He was honorably discharged at the end of the war.

Upon returning to the states, he was employed for many years by the Fort Devens/Civil Engineer Carpentry Division. Following his retirement, Leo worked with his son at Dick Lepine Real Estate, where he put up signs and did maintenance.

Leo was a devout Catholic and a long time communicant of St. Michael's Parish in Lowell and attended daily Mass at St. Joseph the Worker Shrine in Lowell.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and watching football, especially the New England Patriots. He loved spending time with his family and was the greatest dad and grandfather anyone could have asked for.

Being Dracut's oldest citizen, Leo was offered the "Boston Post Cane" award, but had to decline the presentation due to health.

He is survived by his son Richard L. Lepine and his wife Rita of Dracut, his daughter and caregiver Nancy Prudhomme of Lowell, his grandson Christopher P. Chevalier and his wife Shannon Dowd of Lowell, three great grandchildren, Alexandria Chevalier, Christopher P. Chevalier, Jr., and Caitlin Dowd, all of Lowell, his great great granddaughter Claire Chevalier also of Lowell, two sisters-in-law, Della Nabydoski of Hingham and Yvette Lepine of FL., and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the father of the late William Lepine and the brother of the late Rose, Rosaire, Armand, Yvonne, Aline, Gabriel, Roland, and Gerard.

LEPINE- Due to Covid-19 restrictions, services were held privately. Burial took place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford. A mass and celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leo's memory to St. Michaels' Church and/or St. Joseph Shrine. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell.

My sincere condolences to the Lepine family. I met Leo at the Shrine downtown many years ago and what first impressed me was his devotion and love for our Lord. We would often chat after Mass and he had many wonderful life stories to tell. His family meant the world to him. He exuded such kindness and warmth and I am blessed to have known him. May he safely be in the loving arms of Our Lord and Savior after such a life well lived. May he Rest In Peace.
