LOWELL, MA -- Luis M. Artur, 82, died peacefully at his home, Tuesday, March 29th, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Helena S. (Tavares) Artur with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Luis was born in Bombarral, Portugal on December 26, 1933, a son of the late Guelhermina (Martins) and Antonio Artur.
For many years, he worked as a Machine operator at Wang Labs in Lowell, MA.
Luis was extremely active and well known in the Portuguese community. He was past President of the Portuguese Civic Club "Reds" and helped coordinate and run many of the Portuguese Feasts. Luis was an avid Soccer fan, and his favorite team was Sporting Clube de Portugal. He also loved animals.
Along with his wife, Helena S. Artur, Luis is survived by his three children, Anabella Silva and her husband, Olinto of Dracut, Maria Donovan and her husband, James of Derry, NH, and John Artur and his wife, Dawn of Nashua, NH; four grandchildren, Derek Silva and his wife, Kim of Dracut, Caitlin Silva and her fiancé, Michael Walker of Tyngsboro and Kyra and Sierra Artur of Nashua; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Silva of Dracut; his sister, Gracinda Fernandes of New Bedford, as well as other siblings in France and Portugal; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
ARTUR -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., on SATURDAY, April 2nd at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT, with his Funeral Mass directly following at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, Lowell. in honor of Luis' wishes, Burial will be held privately in the presence of family.
