A lifetime Lawrence resident, she was a daughter of Genevieve (Killeen) Foley of Lawrence and the late Vincent P. Foley Sr. She graduated from Lawrence's St. Mary's High School in 1980, and the University of Vermont School of Nursing in 1985.
Ms. Foley was the clinical manager of the Level II nursery at the Lowell General Hospital, and was previously employed as a neonatal nurse at the Lawrence General Hospital, and Oakland Children's Hospital in California. Ms. Foley served as a secretary and president of Division 8, LAOH, and currently served as Essex County president and State vice president of the Massachusetts LAOH.
During her 19 years in neonatal nursing, Ms. Foley has been honored for her skills and leadership, both in Lowell and Lawrence. She received the President's Award at Lawrence General Hospital in 1997 and received the Heroes Award by The Sun for her work with infants at Lowell General Hospital in 2002.
Ms. Foley was a triathlete, and in recent years, spearheaded her extended family and friends to participate in the annual Feaster Five Road Race. She has raised thousands of dollars for liver cancer research in the Joseph Moakley Run and by competing in last year's Boston Marathon. She was a member of the Andover and North Andover YMCA.
Ms. Foley was an accomplished photographer. She created a Web-based retail site called Connor Pass Studios, from which she offered nature and travel photos from her extensive travels.
Besides her mother, she is survived by four sisters and three sons-in-law, Patricia Karl and her husband Russell of North Andover, Justine Croteau and her husband Robert of Andover, Barbara Jensen and her husband William of Methuen, and Cathy Foley of Salem, N.H.; and three brothers, Vincent Foley and his wife Jeanne of Hampton, N.H., Thomas of Hooksett, N.H., and Michael and his wife Beth of Walnut Creek, Calif. She also leaves 15 nieces and nephews; five grandnieces and grandnephews; and her close friends, Russ and Joan Wrigley of Andover.

I was in first through eighth grade with Mary Beth. We lost touch for several years but spent a few months after college becoming reaquainted. She was a great friend and will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Karl and family,
May the love of friends and family be a source of comfort to you at this time. Kristin told me about Mary Beth running in the Boston Marathon this past April. She was an incredible power of example for many people and I will keep her and all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

"Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people stay for awhile and move our souls to dance. They awaken us to a new understanding, leave footprints on our hearts and we are never, ever the same." This is the impact Mary Beth has had on the lives of so many people she has touched at Lowell General Hospital. I feel truly blessed to have known her.

Mrs. Foley, Tommy, Cathy, Pat, Vinni, Justine, Barbara, Micheal- I am so sorry to hear about Mary's death. I will always cherish seeing her smiling face when I was younger swimming when I'd swim in her moms pool. I will also always cherish those March of Dimes walks that we did together. Mary's kindness has touched me in many ways and throughout my life I will never forget it. Stay strong and I'm always here.

Mary Beth hired me 3 years ago at Lowell General Hospital. I was so impressed by her during my interview, her strenth and her dedication to the unit. I respected her so much and feel a huge sense of loss for a great leader, friend and RN.

To the Foley Family:
I am so sorry for your loss. Mary Beth was one of a kind! May you take comfort in knowing how many lives she touched in her much too brief time with us. I am a better person for having known her and believe anyone who knew her is. She will be missed immensely.

Dear Patricia,
I'm very sorry to hear of the passing of Mary Beth. When I read the obituary this morning it evoked wonderful memories of your Dad and your entire family and those wonderful days of long ago on Tower Hill. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
