Mary A. (Cantelli) Hughes, age 86, a longtime resident of Chelmsford and former resident of Quincy passed away on August 25, 2021 at her daughter's home surrounded by her family as was her wish.

She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Hughes with whom she shared 61 years of marriage before his passing in 2015.

Mary was born in Quincy on September 2, 1934 and was the daughter of the late A. Joseph and Kathryn M. (Gaynor) Cantelli.

Mary was very talented at crafting of all kinds and especially enjoyed woodworking with her husband. She enjoyed flower gardening, trips to the seashore, museums and most recently rock concerts.

Her greatest joy was the involvement in the activities of her children especially a trip to Chelmsford England for soccer with her youngest sons.

After raising her children, which included 2 sets of twins, she worked in Chelmsford as a cook at Byam Elementary School, a baker/cake decorator at Market Basket and a digitizer for Rich Codling at Envirodata Corp. Before retiring she worked as a decorator at Military Art China in Westford.

Mary leaves her 6 children, Kathryn Barry (Paul) of Lowell, Daniel Hughes of Wareham, Diane Williams (Robert) of Hudson NH, Paul Hughes (Rita) of Phoenix AZ, John Hughes (Cara) of Phoenix AZ, Joseph Hughes (Silvia) of Gilbert AZ; 10 grandchildren, Michael and Jill Harvey, Kristen and Robert Williams and Kelly Mahoney (Collin), Connor, Brady and Isabel Hughes, Katie and Amanda Hughes; and 3 great grandchildren, Kathryn Mello, Delaney and Killian Mahoney. One brother Joseph Cantelli. She was predeceased by 3 sisters and one brother.

The family would like to extend their heart felt thoughts of appreciation to the M3 floor staff at LGH and all the "911" responders for their exceptional care and compassion.
