HUDSON, N.H. -- Matthew Richard Dubuc, age 7, a resident of Hudson, died Sunday evening, March 25, at home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with hepatoblastoma, liver cancer, which he fought since July 2004.

Matthew was a member of St. Marguerite D'Youville Parish, formerly St. Louis Church in Lowell.

Besides his loving parents, he is survived by two brothers, Christopher Dubuc, age 9, a third-grade student at St. Louis School and Zachary Dubuc, age 2, of Hudson; maternal grandparents, Richard and Charlene (Lafontaine) Cohan of Lowell; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Ruth (Martin) Dubuc of Lowell; and his godparents, Jenny Wasylak and William Dubuc, both of Dracut.

Dear Dubuc Family,

As everyone before me has said I too am saddened by the loss of such a beautiful, sharp, spirited, young man, mature beyond his years. I am at a great loss for a very special little guy with an impish grin and enchanting smile. My thoughts were of him often and I was constantly viewing the site to see what he had been up to or how his day had gone. I will miss him and hope that he keeps leaving reminders that he is there taking care and watching out for each of you as each of you looked out and took care of him when he needed you. You are a wonderfully loving family thank you for allowing us in.

Matty, fly high sweet angel, fly high! You gave so much to this world. You touched so many in your short life. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for teaching and showing others to live life to the fullest. I can't even fathom what incredible things you'll do up there in heaven. Watch over your family.

Sandy, Johnny, Chris and Zach - my heart aches for you as you begin this new journey. Hold each other close and ALWAYS talk about Matty. You have to be so proud of your 3 boys. Your family continues to amaze me by your strength, courage and grace. We will see Matty again and oh what a reunion that will be!

Chris - how special it must be to know that Matty's last words were to you. What an incredible big brother you are.

God bless and always BELIEVING, Anissa

As parents of a child who also has special needs, we were touched by Matty's story. Although we didn't know him personally, we have heard many wonderful stories about him through mutual friends.

Nothing we say can change the way you feel, but may you find some comfort in knowing that you have many friends and family to support you.

Our thoughts are with your family.

To the Dubuc Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I was a nurse on 8N/10S at Children's, I took care of Matty a few times. He was such a couragous boy, your whole family is couragous. When I left Children's I became a visiting nurse in the Lowell area. It was amazing to go into children's homes and see how Matty touched people there too. You have such a special little boy that lit up everyones lives, I know he did mine. God bless you.

Looking back, on the memory of,
The dance we shared, beneath the stars above,
For a moment, all the world was right,
How could I have known, that you'd ever say goodbye,

And now, I'm glad I didn't know,
The way it all would end, the way it all would go,
Our lives, are better left to chance,
I could have missed the pain,
But I'd have had to miss, the dance.

Holding you, I held everything
For a moment, wasn't I the king.
If I'd only known, how the king would fall.
Well who's to say, you know I might have changed it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end, the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance,
I could have missed the pain,
But I'd have had to miss, the dance.

Yes my life, is better left to chance,
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss, the dance

I never met Matty, but having heard his proud grandfather Dick's stories of his grandson, I couldn't help but be touched by his courage and deeply saddened by his passing. Matty is a true hero and role model for all children. In a world where children think they have it bad because they don't have enough Webkinz, Matty just wanted to play and be one of the kids. Godspeed Matty ,there's no cancer in heaven. My thoughts are with Dick and the rest of Matty's family.
